NetIQ Security Manager Streamlines Network Defense for Paul, Hastings, Janofsky and Walker, LLP

NetIQ Corp. With more than 785 attorneys in nine offices across the U.S. and in London and Tokyo, Paul Hastings has over 2,000 users who are generating, accessing and using data housed in more than 200 servers. Securing this global network is critical to protecting the law firm's assets and the client information contained on its servers and workstations. Maintaining and protecting client confidentiality is their number one priority.

Wilson Ye, whose title is "security manager" for Paul Hastings, fulfils multiple job functions within his organization. Like many of his peers he is strapped for time and resources, so tracking who was logging in to the domain and edge devices, such as Web and critical application servers, was a time consuming chore. And fears of unauthorized users getting into the network were a primary concern. "It was important for me to determine who was logging in and at what time, and as well as pinpointing which accounts have unusual login attempts. Security Manager's real-time alerts, tied to its automated response actions, and flexible notification options has significantly increased our overall security and audit levels," Ye said. "I also chose NetIQ over another product because it allowed me to consolidate and analyze our security events and firewall logs from a centralized console."

NetIQ Security Manager was also easy to install and deploy without requiring a re-boot when deploying Windows 2000 or a Windows NT system. "The ease of installation and deployment was a great time saver. It installs on the fly, and we were able to use all of the features and rules that come with it. Very little customization was done to meet our initial requirements," continued Ye.
