NetIQ, RIM to Provide Systems Management Tools for BlackBerry

Alliance Will Provide IT Managers the Tools to Easily Monitor and Diagnose the Performance of their BlackBerry Enterprise Server within a Central Console

At the Wireless Enterprise Symposium, NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of e-business infrastructure management and intelligence solutions, and Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSE: RIM), a world leader in the mobile communications market, today announced an alliance focused on providing IT departments with advanced performance monitoring and diagnostic tools for BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The first software output to result from the alliance, NetIQ's AppManager® for BlackBerry Enterprise Server, will be demonstrated at the NetIQ booth No. E11.

AppManager for BlackBerry Enterprise Server auto-discovers BlackBerry™ server and service connections within the enterprise; monitors the performance of the BlackBerry server itself; and analyzes the data flow between the messaging server and the handheld. AppManager for BlackBerry Enterprise Server quickly identifies and determines the root-cause of any potential or existing service disruption and alerts administrators to take appropriate corrective action on a proactive or timely basis. Management of BlackBerry Enterprise Server is conducted within the central AppManager console, from which administrators also maintain the performance of other enterprise infrastructure components including hardware, operating systems and related applications, such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino.

In addition to managing their server monitoring and diagnostics, administrators using AppManager for BlackBerry Enterprise Server can also help determine whether or not the network service provider meets their Service Level Agreement (SLA) metrics.

Pricing and Availability

AppManager for BlackBerry Enterprise Server is in final stages of Beta testing and is available for demonstration at the Wireless Enterprise Symposium, with availability from NetIQ expected for summer 2002. Pricing begins at $2,400 per BlackBerry Enterprise Server. NetIQ and RIM intend to continue their relationship to include the development of other mobile management and analysis tools in the future.
