NetIQ Chariot Network Testing Software Now Supports Internet Protocol Version Six
Continued Support for Leading-Edge Networking Technologies
SAN JOSE, Calif.
NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of e-business infrastructure management and intelligence solutions, today announced the release of NetIQ® Chariot® version 4.3 with support for Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).
Chariot evaluates the performance of network applications; tests network devices; and predicts networked application performance prior to deployment. The new version adds support for application-layer testing of an IPv6 network. Chariot is used by hardware and software vendors during product development testing cycles, systems integrators in client engagements and IT personnel within mid-size and large enterprises.
IPv6 is the next-generation protocol designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to replace the current version Internet Protocol, IP Version 4 (IPv4). Vendors are now developing IPv6-enabled products to provide the broadest and most comprehensive support for new technologies that will be required from customers. Using Chariot 4.3 and the IPv6 Test Module, network equipment manufacturers developing IPv6-enabled hardware can easily test their products and compare performance against existing IPv4-designed solutions.
"Added support for IPv6 reinforces NetIQ's history of supporting leading-edge technologies," said Steve Joyce, director, Network Technology for NetIQ. "As vendors provide products for and customers move their networks to IPv6, a smooth migration will be crucial. However, there will undoubtedly be periods of interoperability between IPv4 and v6 in each network."
Chariot allows users to predict and avoid degradation of network performance caused by the rollout of new applications, new users or new network hardware. It also allows users to evaluate networking products, technologies and services, such as Voice over IP and Quality of Service levels, and gather supporting data to justify upgrading network software and hardware.
"Chariot is the only product on the market that provides both the application-level network testing and IPv6 support that we need for our lab," said John Moore, technical director of The Collaboration for Excellence in Network Testing, Analysis and Unique Research (CENTAUR) Labs and the North Carolina Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center (NC-ITEC). "This functionality is vital to the collaborative research that the academic and corporate researchers at Centaur Labs conduct, which includes innovative network testing and analysis."
The intent of Centaur Labs is to bring together an array of players from both private and public sectors to conduct innovative and collaborative testing and advance the state-of-the-art of the next generation Internet. Centaur Labs is located on the North Carolina State University Centennial Campus and collaborates with the Internet2 community via the NC-ITEC, which is part of Centaur. Internet2 is a consortium being led by more than 190 universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies, accelerating the creation of tomorrow's Internet.
