NetIQ Becomes Brocade Fabric Access Partner
NetIQ Leverages API from Storage Networking Leader to Unlock Intelligence in Brocade Fabrics and Enhance SAN Management in Microsoft Environments
At NetConnect™ 2002, NetIQ's User Conference, NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of e-business infrastructure management and intelligence solutions, today announced the company has become a Brocade Fabric Access Partner. NetIQ will leverage Brocade Fabric Access Application Programming Interface (API) to bring SAN management features and functionality to Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM) through use of a NetIQ® XMP™ module.
Leveraging the rich fabric management information and features available through the Brocade Fabric Access API—such as proactive fabric health and performance monitoring-NetIQ will deliver comprehensive management solutions for Microsoft enterprise customers that provide granular control and monitoring of the storage networking environment. By using NetIQ's XMP modules to manage Brocade-based SANs with MOM, customers will now have an integrated console for monitoring both their applications and corresponding SAN performance and availability for end-to-end management functionality.
"NetIQ is committed to delivering solutions to simplify management and drive down the operational costs of IT Infrastructures," said Tom Kemp, senior vice president of products at NetIQ. "Working with the Brocade Fabric Access API will enable our mutual customers to streamline the management of mission-critical Microsoft applications in the context of the storage networks they depend on."
XMP for Brocade will enable MOM to collect events and statistics on performance and health from a Brocade-based SAN and inform administrators of the underlying health and status of the SAN on which their applications depend. Customers take advantage of advanced reporting and analytic capabilities through NetIQ XMP ActiveAnalytics™ functionality, which provides the ability to see multiple key system indicators in a single view and to interactively analyze and correlate this data through a 3-D chart control.
Facing the task of storing, managing, administering and providing access to an ever-increasing amount of business-critical data with limited resources, companies are looking to storage networks to help them keep pace with data growth, while at the same time reducing the costs of their storage environments. Using Brocade SilkWorm® fabric switches, companies can connect servers with storage devices through a SAN, creating a highly reliable, secure, and manageable environment for storage applications.
"We are pleased to work with NetIQ to expand the management options for Brocade customers using industry-leading solutions such as Microsoft Operations Manager," said Jay Kidd, vice president of product marketing for Brocade Communications Systems Inc. "Working closely with our partners through the Brocade Fabric Access Program, we enable applications to unlock the intelligence in the Brocade fabric to more efficiently enable end-to-end management of Brocade-based SANs."
Availability and Pricing

About the Brocade Fabric Access Program
Brocade makes the intelligence in the Brocade SAN fabric available to partners through the Fabric Access Applications Programming Interface (API). Brocade fabric switches are based on the Brocade Fabric Operating System (Fabric OS), which is an intelligent, distributed operating system for Brocade fabrics. The Brocade Fabric OS provides a feature-rich platform for SAN-designed applications and offers advanced features for proactive SAN management and monitoring, enabling applications to dynamically discover physical components in a SAN and monitor fabric resources. Using the Fabric Access API, partners can use the information proactively delivered by the Fabric OS to inform and empower their management applications. For more information, visit www.brocade.com.
