NetIQ Appoints Industry Veteran Dr. Richard Schell as CTO and General Manager
Tom Kemp Appointed Senior Vice President Corporate Strategy and Development; Joseph Hnilo Appointed Vice President of Product Marketing for the Performance and Availability Management Business Unit
SAN JOSE, Calif.
NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of Systems Management, Security Management and Web Analytics solutions, today announced the appointment of industry veteran Dr. Richard (Rick) Schell, general manager of the Performance and Availability business unit and corporate chief technology officer and Joseph Hnilo, vice president of Product Marketing for the Performance and Availability Management business unit. Schell will report to Chuck Boesenberg, president and chief executive officer at NetIQ and Hnilo will report to Schell. In addition, Tom Kemp has been appointed senior vice president of Corporate Strategy and Development, reporting to Boesenberg.

As general manager of the Performance and Availability Management business unit and corporate chief technology officer, Rick Schell will lead the development of the company's next-generation technology vision and oversee the product roadmap for NetIQ's Performance and Availability line of business. Schell has spent 20 years in the high-tech industry, where he held executive positions at Netscape Communications, Central Point Software, Sun Microsystems, Borland, Intel and iSharp. While at Netscape, Schell was the first to assume the role of senior vice president Product Development where he built a world-class engineering team growing it from 20 to more than 600 people. He then became general manager of the company's Client Product Division where he was responsible for a product line that contributed more than half the company's revenue. Schell is on the board of directors at McAfee.com and holds a Master of Science and a doctorate in Computer Science from the University of Illinois.
In his new position, Tom Kemp is responsible for developing the company's business strategy and identifying strategic business opportunities. Most recently, Kemp has served as senior vice president and general manager of NetIQ's Performance and Availability Management business unit and before that as senior vice president of Products.
With more than 18 years of experience marketing enterprise software, Joseph Hnilo has joined NetIQ as vice president of Product Marketing. Under his direction are all of the company's activities related to the product marketing of the Performance and Availability business unit. Prior to joining NetIQ, he served as a vice president of Product Marketing at Quest Software. Hnilo holds an M.A. from University of Virginia and a B.A. from San Francisco State University.
