NetIQ Announces Industry’s First Software for Diagnosing VoIP Call Quality Issues

Industry Leader Offers New and Enhanced Solutions to Assess and Manage VoIP and Video

Press Release

SAN JOSE, Calif.

NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of Systems Management, Security Management and Web Analytics solutions, today announced the Vivinet™ family of products, formerly known as the NetIQ® VoIP Management Solution.

The Vivinet family of products includes NetIQ's newest product Vivinet™ Diagnostics, the first product that enables customers to easily pinpoint and diagnose call quality problems in a Voice over IP (VoIP) environment, as well as updated versions of the award-winning Vivinet™ Assessor and Vivinet™ Manager.

VoIP deployments are often stalled because of time spent working to identify call quality issues. By analyzing all network devices along the path of a VoIP phone call, IT professionals can use NetIQ's new Vivinet Diagnostics to troubleshoot in both pre-deployment and post-deployment environments, thus reducing the time needed to resolve voice quality issues.

"Successful implementation of Voice over IP requires in-depth information about the data networking environment," said Steve Brodson, senior solutions engineer at Siemens. "The ease-of-use and the accuracy of the data provided during reporting make Vivinet Assessor the best data network assessment tool on the VoIP market today."

According to research firm Gartner Inc., VoIP is typical of many new technologies — the product technology arrives without the support systems to manage it efficiently and effectively. VoIP will usually share much, if not all, of the existing data network infrastructure, including the LAN and the corporate Intranet. Pre-implementation assessment and planning is crucial to ensuring that the IP network infrastructure is capable of supporting voice — a mission-critical application — to the required high levels of performance. Many enterprises do not perform this activity prior to implementing VoIP and IP telephony. The results can be disastrous, leading to a poor-quality voice system that can cost the enterprise lost business and revenue.

"The list of currently available products that can help enterprises through the process of pre-implementation and operational management of VoIP is limited," said David Neil, vice president and research director at the Gartner Inc. "Ensuring seamless use of voice on IP networks involves more than packet quality; companies need to diagnose the performance of the network from a data perspective as well."

NetIQ's VoIP management products have been helping customers ensure the integrity of their integrated voice and data networks since 2001.

"The Vivinet family of products allows us to accurately assess our network for any weak spots or bottlenecks," said Richard Berke, consulting network engineer at T. Rowe Price. "With NetIQ's Vivinet products we are now able to better manage our data, voice and video communications and ensure a smooth migration to VoIP when the time comes."

Next-generation communication technologies can provide businesses a competitive advantage — when they work. Deploying and maintaining voice and video applications can be daunting because of the critical role they play. The Vivinet product lines provide the most depth and breadth of available solutions, allowing customers to first test the network prior to VoIP implementation, and then monitor voice and video performance and quickly diagnose and solve problems. In addition to the new Vivinet Diagnostics, the Vivinet family of products includes:

  • Vivinet Assessor 2.0 now automates even more of the assessment process, making it easier to quickly assess a data network’s ability to support VoIP. New in version 2.0 is the ability to automatically inventory network devices, highlight limitations of those network devices, and project bandwidth requirements based on current utilization and expected call volume.
  • Vivinet Manager 2.1 is based on a proven scalable architecture that monitors the entire VoIP environment from one console. Vivinet Manager now offers greatly expanded support for IP telephony, call centers, video and unified messaging. Vivinet Manager is currently managing over 100,000 phones.

"The integration of Vivinet Diagnostics into the product family is seamless, using the same agents and the same performance and call quality measurements as Vivinet Assessor and Vivinet Manager," said Steve Joyce, vice president of Network Technology at NetIQ. "As you progress from pre-deployment to deployment to operational monitoring, you can always track the change in VoIP execution, without having to change your management infrastructure."

"We continue to garner good traction with resellers and end users, given the release of new products every five or six months," Joyce said. "Our comprehensive coverage of applications for vendors, such as Cisco, provides an excellent base for the support of future vendors."

Vivinet Assessor, available now, is sold in one-month assessment licenses for $4,500 or perpetual licenses for $12,000.
