NetIQ Announces Availability of First AppManager and XMP Modules to Monitor and Manage UNIX, Linux and Novell NetWare

Enables System Administrators to Leverage AppManager and Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 to Streamline and Simplify the Management of Cross-Platform Environments

Press Release

ORLANDO, FL.

At NetConnect™ 2002, NetIQ's User Conference, NetIQ Corp. (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of e-business infrastructure management and intelligence solutions, today announced the availability of the first wave of its monitoring and management support for UNIX (Sun Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX), Linux (Red Hat) and Novell NetWare.

The new cross-platform AppManager® modules will bring AppManager's industry-leading Windows-based management and real-time diagnostics capabilities to popular non-Windows platforms. In addition the new cross-platform Extended Management Pack (XMP) modules will extend Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 (MOM) to support centralized monitoring of critical platforms beyond Windows 2000. NetIQ will release the initial AppManager and XMP™ modules in support of these platforms on March 15, 2002. IDC projects the market for UNIX performance and availability management products to be a $1.3 billion, equal in size to the Windows NT market for the same products.

"Our customers have asked us to extend our management and monitoring products so it's as easy to manage UNIX as it is to manage Windows," said Tom Kemp, senior vice president of Products at NetIQ. "NetIQ has developed a wide range of XMP and AppManager modules that extend the ease of use of these industry-leading Windows-based management products to other critical business platforms."

Enterprises that have standardized on AppManager and MOM for performance and availability management and real-time diagnostics of their Windows environments will also be able to manage UNIX, Linux and NetWare servers from their familiar Windows-based consoles. NetIQ's cross-platform XMP modules provide the most integrated means for extending MOM to monitor critical events on UNIX, Linux and NetWare servers. NetIQ's cross-platform AppManager modules bring AppManager's powerful script-based management and diagnostics capabilities to UNIX, Linux and NetWare servers. Customers using AppManager and MOM to manage their Windows environment will not have to retrain personnel to manage UNIX, Linux or NetWare. Products to be released in the next few months include:

  • XMP for Sun Solaris, XMP for Novell NetWare and XMP for Red Hat Linux enable UNIX and Novell NetWare administrators to benefit from MOM's enterprise scale event consolidation. Users will be able to view critical events, collect key performance and availability metrics from the same console they use with their Windows servers.
  • AppManager for Sun Solaris, AppManager for Novell NetWare, AppManager for Red Hat Linux, AppManager for HP-UX, and AppManager for IBM AIX broaden AppManager's platform coverage by providing real-time diagnostics andperformance management of the most popular UNIX and Linux servers as well as NetWare. These modules collect detailed data for fast troubleshooting, problem determination and reporting using the familiar AppManager features.

NetIQ® XMP for Novell NetWare and AppManager for Sun Solaris will be released to manufacturing the end of February and generally available March 15, 2002.
