INTEGRIS Health Selects NetIQ Security Solutions
Affirms NetIQ's Commitment to Helping Healthcare Organizations
SAN JOSE, Calif.
NetIQ Corp. (NASDAQ: NTIQ), a leading provider of Systems Management, Security Management and Web Analytics solutions, today announced INTEGRIS Health, Oklahoma's largest not-for-profit, locally-owned health care system, has selected NetIQ® Security Manager™, NetIQ® Administration Suite™ and NetIQ® Migration Suite™. These products were selected to ensure timely compliance of the federal privacy and security regulations of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and to securely administer its IT infrastructure.
Today's announcement reflects INTEGRIS' recent implementation of NetIQ® Migration Suite and NetIQ® Directory and Resource Administrator™. In the short term, the hospital system plans to deploy NetIQ Security Manager to add an additional layer of security and to manage its existing and future security infrastructure from a single, centralized console.
With more than 5,000 users and 3,500 desktops across Oklahoma, INTEGRIS also needed a tool to migrate its Windows NT users to Windows 2000 Active Directory with no disruption to patient care. In a healthcare environment, downtime results in the inability to access and print doctor's orders and lab results, thereby compromising patient care. Using NetIQ Migration Suite, INTEGRIS migrated all user accounts and is now transitioning users and workstations to the new Active Directory domain while maintaining the high availability of clinical systems that is critical to a successful healthcare operation.
"We chose to expand our portfolio of NetIQ products because we've had tremendous success with them and have been very pleased with the ease-of-use," said Avery Cloud, chief information officer at INTEGRIS. "Furthermore, with the pending federal HIPAA regulations enforcing security, privacy and data exchange standards, the NetIQ solutions will allow us to operate knowing that a tighter and more secure administration of our environment will result in added security and integrity of data."
In addition, INTEGRIS wanted to reduce the number of domain administrators and add an audit trail for account management activities undertaken by its help desk. With NetIQ Directory and Resource Administrator, INTEGRIS was able to remove native rights in a secure manner where they were not necessary while maintaining the ability to delegate NT and Exchange administrative tasks — such as change of passwords, the disablement of unused user accounts and the set up of new user accounts — to the help desk. In addition, NetIQ's solution enabled INTEGRIS to track or audit both the existing NT 4.0 domain and its new Active Directory structure.
Using NetIQ's security and administration products, health care organizations demonstrate compliance with the Administrative Procedures, Technical Security Services and Technical Security Mechanisms sections of the HIPAA regulations. NetIQ Security Manager and NetIQ® Security Analyzer™ enable enforcement of security policies and reduce vulnerabilities in the network while NetIQ Administration Suite enables IT administrators to control access to network resources and provide audit trails through extensive reporting capabilities. NetIQ security management solutions help companies secure their networks from unauthorized access; define and automate their security policies; and collect and manage security events from a single, centralized console.
"With the exponential increase in policy-driven and compliance-driven security initiatives such as HIPAA, it is essential that IT organizations have the tools necessary to proactively manage the security of their IT infrastructure," said Matt Dircks, vice president, Product Management for Security and Administration Products at NetIQ. "Implementation of our solutions will enable INTEGRIS to comply with strict HIPAA security regulations while further improving patient care by eliminating the technological barriers that affect everything from accessing doctor's orders to checking test results."
