NetIQ Announces Availability of Security Manager 3.4; Adds Support for Check Point FireWall-1

New Module Helps Security Professionals Ensure Proper Firewall Configuration, Detect and Automatically Respond to Security Incidents, Maximize Efficiency and Protect Corporate Assets

Press Release

SAN JOSE, Calif.

NetIQ Corporation (Nasdaq: NTIQ), a leading provider of e-business infrastructure management and intelligence solutions, today announced the availability of Security Manager 3.4, a central console for real-time security incident management and automated response. New to version 3.4 is support for Check Point's industry-leading FireWall-1 and enhanced reporting capabilities focused on audit readiness.

The integration of Security Manager's incident management capabilities with the critical perimeter security services provided by Check Point's FireWall-1 helps security professionals ensure proper firewall configuration and automated responses to security incidents, maximizing the efficiency and protective capabilities of their enterprise firewalls. Together with NetIQ's WebTrends Firewall Reporting products, which provide deep firewall log analysis and reporting, Security Manager for Check Point Firewall-1 customers will have the complete view of firewall activity as well as the ability to detect and react to threats in real-time.

"By leveraging your existing security products and consolidating and centralizing the monitoring and automated response actions for all security events and incidents into a single console, Security Manager increases the ROI of your overall security investment," said Scott Hollis, director of Security Management Products at NetIQ Corporation. "We are pleased to offer the capabilities and benefits of Security Manager to customers using Check Point's industry-leading FireWall-1."

Security professionals continue to be challenged by a lack of tools for automated response to suspicious firewall activity and a lack of consistent or appropriate configuration of firewalls across large enterprises. "All firewalls certified by ICSA Labs are capable of preventing all attacks, in the realm of a Firewall, that actually occur against real companies in the real world," said Peter Tippett, chief technology officer of TruSecure/ICSA Labs. "However TruSecure's industry-wide testing shows that more than 70 percent of organizations with these certified firewalls installed are vulnerable to the same attacks that their own Firewall is capable of mitigating. Network architectural issues, network and device knowledge issues, appropriateness of application and firewall configuration issues all contribute to this very real problem."

Security Manager 3.4 also features enhanced reporting capabilities that enable corporate security professionals to prepare for internal and external security audits by identifying potential trouble spots and pre-running commonly required reports. Together with NetIQ's Security Analyzer, which is able to run and provide reports on more than 2,300 vulnerability tests and directly integrate with NetIQ Security Manager, companies can be assured that they are constantly protected from vulnerabilities and prepared for security audits.

"Security Manager offers the clients of Rutter Networking Technologies an unparalleled overview into the security events occurring in their Windows NT and Windows 2000 environments," said Scott Whittier, senior systems engineer at Rutter Networking Technologies, a technology-based business solution provider. "Security Manager's flexibility to take any event, whether the system is configured for it or not, and correlate and report on the data is invaluable in assuring that our clients' network are secure."
