A customer recently asked, “What’s the difference between PlateSpin Protect and PlateSpin Migrate?”

Well the difference really is in usage and use case.

While both products do share some common code, ultimately PlateSpin Migrate is designed — from a capability, workflow and UI perspective — as a migration tool. It is a best-of-breed tool that enables users to quickly and easily migrate whole server workloads to and from any underlying infrastructure.

PlateSpin Protect, on the other hand, has been designed from a capability, workflow, and UI perspective as a flexible solution for creating, replicating, and managing virtual machines used as backups for both physical and virtual production workloads.

Both of the ‘Explore’ links go to the Migrate page
    For Protect, go to http://www.novell.com/products/protect/

The only problem is that neither OverView pages actually sum up what the products do, but describe how they do what they do without any direct reference back to what they do. One can certainly piece together the essence of the product, but but it is certainly not strait forward. No wonder people are confused.
