The count down starts as I and 37,000+ prepare to be snowbirds for the week in sunny Orlando. This is a big change from last Friday here in Virginia where I shoveled a foot of heavy, wet snow so I could get my car out. Today I have the windows open and looking forward to HIMSS.
This is my first time to the conference, as it will be for 40% of the attendees. 20% of the attendees have been to the conference 5+ times. This is an interesting time to a technology vendor as healthcare is under the biggest technology transformation of any industry at this time. NetIQ will be amongst 1200+ other vendors ranging from IT to the most cutting edge healthcare instruments.
HIMSS14 is messaging that transformation as Innovation – Impact – Outcomes. Patient care is critical and the use of technology to delver better care is top of mind. Physicians are the most demanding customers, but patients are most important and need to feel confident their information is protected. Productivity of the physicians and clinicians is a big topic of many of the sessions.
It is hard to believe just 5 short months ago all we could hear about on the news was about the federal healthcare page challenges. I recall being on a holiday the first week of November listening to the morning news and hearing all the finger pointing as to who was to blame. As a long time IT person, it’s just broken, fix it and stop trying to point a finger. Then the finger was pointed at an Identity Management solution and of course the next finger went toward a vendor and it continued. Again, software is only as good as the implementation and thought put into how it would be used.
Fast forward, so how does NetIQ fit into this rapidly transforming industry? NetIQ has been in the healthcare industry for many years and has quite a long list of global healthcare customers who understood a long time ago, the importance of a sound Identity and Access Management framework. Healthcare providers must be interconnected and sharing EMRs and EHRs (electronic medical and health records), while maintaining privacy compliance and security against information breaches. Fines are being imposed and they are very high with some CFOs facing charges of fraud for false meaningful use attestation. Never before has Access and Security Management become more important.
Stop in the NetIQ Booth #6671 for a Roasted Nut break and get Badged in to participate in the interactive and mobile demonstration of a day in the life of a patient moving through the healthcare process of checking in, visiting the nurse and finally the physician. Healthcare is delivered with quality and confidence using technology with flexibility and transparent control. Behind the scenes access and identity are managed by role and patient information is monitored for suspicious behavior continuously. Compliance must be continuous and not a once a year audit with real fines for false attestation.
We will also presenting on these topics in the booth, stop by and register for one of these sessions. Watch this short video of customer success stories and the benefits they receive from NetIQ Identity, Access, Security Management, Governance and Compliance solutions. Watch Now >>>>>
