With the release of NetIQ Operations Center 5.0 Patch Bundle 8 (PB8), there is a new way to chart performance and metric data– the Charting portlet.

If you are using the Charts tab in the Information portlet, the new Charting portlet will look familiar.  The Charting portlet brings the ability to chart multiple elements and their metrics to these gorgeous new charts.  You can also customize the charts, so they look the way you want.   And you can use the portlet in driving mode with any configuration you choose.

When you add the Charting portlet to your page, you immediately have access to add elements from that view.  No need to go to the Preferences page to change your charts—You can configure and make changes while viewing the chart.

The Charting porlet charts any of the following metrics that are available for your element:

  • Native performance data (from integrations)
  • Service Level Agreement metrics
  • Element Condition Change data
  • Alarm Count data

After choosing your elements and metrics, you can start modify the styling of your charts.  Change colors, chart types, line styles, and even the names of the metrics all while viewing your charts.

Similar to the Information portlet (Charts tab), there are multiple ways to easily zoom into your data:

  • Use pre-set buttons to choose a different time period, such as 6 hours, 1 day, 1 month, etc.
  • Grab and select a section of the chart with your mouse to make this your time period.
  • Use the date selector to select a specific date/time range – helpful for those times when you know exactly when an event or outage occurred.
  • Use the time selector slider bar (at the bottom of the chart) to change the current time period.

Now that you have set up your chart, you may decide that you don’t want the options panel open any longer.   The option panel easily collapses, or you can use an option in Preferences to hide it.

We have plans to continue to enhance our charting capability, so have fun with this portlet, and please let us know your feedback!
