Q. Is there a distance limit on the replication of PlateSpin Protect? We have a datacentre which is almost 3500km away from a server. Is this possible, I realise the link speed has a bearing but realistically what sort of speed would be required to replicate and the time to replicate over a 10mb link?
A. There is no theoretical distance limit to the data replication technology used by PlateSpin Protect. That being said, the scenario you are describing should be investigated further before a definitive answer can be given. WAN replication can be affected by several variables, including network latency, available bandwidth, changed data, and operational time-frame restrictions. In this case, the best course of action would be to contact a Novell technical representative directly to have a more in-depth discussion.
