Have you implemented a custom right-click in the NOC console to open a help desk ticket, open the knowledgebase or some other custom action? Have you ever thought about making it standout more within the java console right-click menu list. Guess what, there are several options.
Novell Operations Center is highly extensible. You can add custom right-click actions for elements and/or alarms, you can make the menus only show up based on the context of what you are clicking on as well as make particular menu options standout for the end users. Below I’ll give you some ideas on how you can adjust the type of menu option (submenu or not) as well as the look of the menu option.
The first concept I’ll cover is how to create sub-menus in order to group similar right-clicks. The basic idea is to create an operation, I typically name the operation (“Name” field) closely to the display name (“Menu text” field) in case I need to find it later to edit it. For submenu’s, the pipe sign is the delimiter, so for instance, in the Menu Text field, if I enter: “Tickets|Open Ticket” from the menu standpoint, I would get a menu category of “Tickets” with Open Ticket underneath that one. One that I put on my local copy of Operations Center is one for launching the debuggers (see below)
Another useful feature that you can leverage is embedding html within the display text. You can use this feature to make menu items stick out by bolding the text, changing the color or other things. The example below shows you an example of both the embedded HTML as well as a submenu.
There are many other HTML tags that can be used such as changing the colors and font size. Enjoy!
