Accessing Technical Information About Your Product

When you have a technical problem to solve or you want to just stay informed on new tips, patches, and Technical Information Documents (TIDs) my guess is you probably would appreciate finding it all in one location. Having to know and track different sites can be a PITA. (look…he said “A” [snicker]) Even if all the information is in one location, having to scan through the data for data that applies to your installed products is still a PITA.

The Novell Forums (http://forums.novell.com) have been recently updated and organized to make it easier for you to find the information you are looking for. Product specific Cool Solutions articles, patches, TIDs, and forum discussions are now accessible from the Novell Forums site which is organized by product.

As an example, let’s say you have Novell GroupWise installed at your location. Go to the forums home page and scroll down until you find the “GroupWise” category. Click on it:

Now you can access the newest product specific TIDs, Patches, and Cool Solutions articles directly from the product forum area.

Of course, you will also be able to tap into the largest pool of knowledge and experience regarding Novell products that exists, the Novell Forums. With over 100,000 registered members, the Novell Forums is a great place to throw around ideas, ask questions, or solve problems. In addition, the Novell Knowledge Partners are always online ready to help. There are also Novell product managers, support engineers, and developers that visit the forums from time to time to get to know you, the customer, your issues, and help to improve the products. You probably have experience to share with the community as well. This “swarming” model of collaboration and knowledge sharing in a peer-to-peer environment has proven extremely effective. Of course, if you are one of those 100,000+ members, you already know that. However, finding all this product specific information in one location is new to you too so don’t miss out on that.

As the program manager over the Novell forums, I’m always looking for ways to improve your experience there. We’ve recently added blocks to the forum home page to show you, at a glance, new TIDS and Patches as well as the most viewed and most discussed forum topics. You can jump into the “Chatting over the back fence” forum to offer forum improvement suggestions, or just say “hi” and hang out with the forum regulars. Talk with folks about the BrainShare conference. We even have a forum to talk directly with a Technical Support Manager if you have questions about Novell Services or have a Service Request you are having a problem with.
