Change Guardian 4.2 has been released!

NetIQ is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of Change Guardian 4.2 to all customers worldwide. Change Guardian makes it easy to monitor access to sensitive data and identify unwanted activity including how sensitive data was changed, and presents all the contextual information an analyst needs to make a decision about what to do in…

Interesting Tomcat not starting problem

I was working with a customer on an upgrade to IDM 4.5.2 and switching from JBoss to clustered Tomcat. I must say, the 4.5 install process is much better than in 4.02, which is always nice to see. We got OSP doing SAML federation to NAM, and then behind a NAM reverse proxy, and it…

Use iManager Plugin Studio to create Custom Plugins

Brief overview of how to create custom plugins for iManager with Plugin Studio.

Limit NAM X.509 Authentication to specific Certificate Authority

.NAM support X.509 certificate mutual authentication. Mutual authentication is used when a user is issued an X.509 certificate from a trusted source, and certificate is then used to identify the user. Trusted Certificate Authority has to import to NAM trust store. This is an issue in some of the use cases.

How to create and manage Incidents in ServiceNow from Sentinel Alerts with Aegis

In previous posts I have shown how to integrate Aegis and Sentinel – but why? I often get asked what does Aegis actually do, its not an easy question to answer without example. The short answer is – it can do almost anything – the long answer is explaining what that means! Aegis…

Designer Add-On – Parcel Service

I have been writing about the various plugins for Designer that people have written, in the hopes of getting word out to people who may not know about them. I mentioned some written by Stefaan Van Cauwenberge and he has put a bunch of his plugins and tools available…

Update MetaData From File

NAM4.2 and previous versions have a Central Metadata Repository where an XML file can be uploaded and the Metadata in the file can be used to create Service Providers (SPs) and Identity Providers (IDPs) and supply the needed metadata for the SPs and IDPs. Reloading the Central Metadata Repository again will update the internal data so that if new SPs and IDPs are created, they will use the new Metadata from the reloaded repository.

Log Capturing in Access Manager

When working with our support team to troubleshoot Access Manager, it‘s common for them to ask for logs. But gathering the right logs with the right settings can be confusing if you aren’t familiar with the process. The following videos guide you through setting logging levels when troubleshooting problems with Access Manager. Check out both…

Aegis ‘Depot’ Activity – Aegis Activities for Sentinel and Change Guardian

Following on from part 1 of the Sentinel Activities for Aegis, part 2 brings with it some specifics for Change Guardian, enhanced activity outputs and improved error handling for JSON serialization. As mentioned in part 1 ( here ) , the Change Guardian Product backend is based on Sentinel so the first bundle of activities, login,…

Scalability for the Real World

For some companies, scalability in the IT world means adding more and more hardware. Data centers of giants like Facebook, Amazon, and Google use what Gartner calls web-scale IT architecture, while others simply invest in more truckloads of traditional IT infrastructure. But with AppManager 9 we took a different approach to scalability. In my last…

Validator Launcher for Mac

NetIQ Validator comes with launch scripts for all supported platforms (Linux/Mac/Windows) but those are console mode shell scripts and offer not much comfort. A while ago when I was still using a Windows laptop as my main workhorse, I wrote a little tool to quickly launch NetIQ Validator from a task bar icon instead. Since I moved on to a MacBook in the mean time and Validator runs on OS-X just fine, I jumped at the opportunity to try out Apple’s new programming language Swift and wrote a native Mac version over the summer…

Parcel Service for NetIQ Designer 4.5

NetIQ Designer for Identity Manager 4.5 includes a powerful concept called packages. If you’re not familiar with all the details and features of packages, please read up on the documentation about Managing Packages and Developing Packages as well as Geoffrey’s excessive series about packages. Once you developed your own packages it quickly comes to distributing…

Registering the MSG Driver issues with Reporting

With IDM 4.0, NetIQ introduced the Reporting module. This is something we have wanted for a long time, the ability to generate reports on IDM related stuff. What stuff is that? Well that depends, and is probably the topic for a series of articles about Reporting. However, to set some basic understanding, let me try…

IDM 4.5 OSP SAML2 SOAP Envelopes

For those that missed the unclear documentation, only NetIQ Access Manager is “supported” for SAML 2.0 into OSP. Future releases are planned to make this actual federation (i.e. any IDP), but that is some time off. That being said, people have managed to use other IDPs to provide federated sign on into the application. One…

Extending AppManager for hardware for Windows base server hardware monitoring

AppManager for hardware can be used for monitoring EXi/ESX underlying hardware failure due to fully supported WBEM protocol by VMWare. I was looking for the same solution to monitor my Windows based underlying hardware but it’s not yet supported. What I figured out by using AppManager for hardware is that it uses the WBEM which…
