symptom
Error occurs when logging in to VigilEnt Security Manager through a remote GUI.

symptom
Error: "VSM Enterprise Objects - Unable to connect to database. [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server driver] [named pipes] SQL Server does not exist or access denied."

cause
This error can occur if the user that logged into the GUI machine is not a member of the Local Administrators group on the VigilEnt Core Services or the VigilEnt Security Server machine.

fix

For Microsoft Windows 2000, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel |Administrative tools |Computer management | Local Users and Groups | Groups on the machine hosting VigilEnt Core Services (VSM 3.0) or VigilEnt Security Server (4.0) Service.

  2. Under Groups, select the Administrator group and click Add.

  3. Select the [Domain Name] from the Look In menu.
  4. Select the user that is currently logged into the remote GUI and click Add.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Log in to the remote GUI machine.


For Microsoft Windows NT, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | User Manager.

  2. Under Groups, select the Administrator group and click Add.

  3. Select the [Domain Name] from the Look In menu.
  4. Select the user that is currently logged into the remote GUI and click Add.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Log in to the remote GUI machine.
