fact

symptom
The SMTP address on the source Custom Recipient is garbled after migrating a mailbox.

cause
When migrating a mailbox and selecting Create Custom Recipient in source for migrated objects& Keep source e-mail, the source SMTP address will be garbled because EM does not know exactly what the target address will be before the Custom Recipient is created. Therefore, Exchange Migrator creates a random address that it knows it can use for the Custom Recipient's target email address.

fix

If Keep source e-mail is selected, the target object will have the same e-mail address as the source object. However, the Custom Recipient needs to forward to the target, and if the source and target email addresses are the same, setting it to forward to the target address will make Exchange confused about whether to forward to the target or the source (since they have the same address). To get around this problem, EM gives the target object a randomly generated e-mail address and forwards to that address. Note: this will ONLY occur if you select Keep source e-mail. If you select Translate email addresses, you will not experience this problem, because EM does not need to create a random email address.
