In Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) version 6.40 and later, the DRA Administration server can be configured to read information from, and write changes to, a specific domain controller when managing a Microsoft Windows 2000 domain. To specify the preferred domain controller, please perform the following steps on the DRA server:

Directory and Resource Administrator version 7.x

1. Launch the Delegation and Configuration console.
2. Select the Managed Domains node under the Configuration Management node.
3. Highlight the domain in question, right-click it, and select Properties .
4. On the General tab, click the Browse button next to the Connect to domain controller field.
5. Select the preferred domain controller from the list.
6. Click OK.
7. Click Yes on the Warning message so that the 'Full Accounts Cache Refresh' is initiated.

Directory and Resource Administrator version 6.40, 6.50 and 6.60

1. Launch Regedit.
2. Navigate to the HKLM\Software\Mission Critical Software\OnePoint\Administration\Modules\Accounts\Domains.Dns\domain.dns.name registry key for the domain you wish to configure.
3. Select the DcPreferred value and select Modify from the Edit drop-down menu.
4. Specify the NetBIOS name or the IP address of the preferred domain controller for this domain in the Edit String dialog box.
5. Click OK.
6. Close Regedit.

For the change to take effect, refresh the Domain Cache by performing the following steps:

1. Launch the DRA Microsoft Management Console (MMC) while logged on as an Assistant Admin with (at minimum) the Built-in Configuration role.
2. Expand the Configuration node.
3. Select Administration server options.
4. Click Domain Cache.
5. Click the Refresh now button.
6. Click OK.
7. Exit Server Options window.

The ability to specify a preferred domain controller is available for managed and trusted Microsoft Windows 2000 domains only. If the specified domain controller is offline or not available, the Directory and Resource Administrator server will log a warning message in the Application log on the DRA server and the Domain Cache Refresh will the revert to the original algorithm, selecting the best domain controller that satisfies its requirements.
