Resolution

goal
What does the post migration wizard 'Synchronize and Update Migrated Mailboxes' do, and when should I use it?

fact
Exchange Migrator 2.x

fix
When you migrate mailboxes, Exchange Migrator migrates all existing permissions and information associated with the migrated mailboxes to the target Exchange server. If you are operating the source and target Exchange servers in parallel during the migration process, some migrated objects may be modified on the source Exchange server after the initial migration.

The Synchronize and Update Migrated Mailboxes wizard allows you to update any new permissions and messages that have been added to the source mailboxes since the last migration. Information updated by this wizard includes:

  • New Messages
  • Calendar appointments
  • Folders
  • Personal contacts

Please note that if you plan to use the Synchronize and Update Migrated Mailboxes wizard, you will need to update every project in your migration plan each time you run this wizard.

A simple example would be if you are planning to migrate three projects, and the plan includes migrating one project per night.

After the first project has been migrated, you would run the Synchronize and Update Migrated Mailboxes wizard for project one.

After the second project has been migrated you would once again run the Synchronize and Update Migrated Mailboxes wizard, but this time you would run it for both projects one and two individually. This is because some permissions may need to be synchronized between the mailboxes of project one and two.

Finally, after you have migrated project three on the third night you would run the Synchronize and Update Migrated Mailboxes wizard again for all three projects in order to maintain continuity.
