Course Description:
This lecture/lab-style, three-day course will help you understand, deploy and successfully use NetIQ Secure Configuration Manager. The course is designed with real-world content and with an emphasis on hands-on exercises. You will learn to install and use Secure Configuration Manager to examine the weaknesses in Windows, UNIX, web-server, and database systems; how to manage and inventory IT Assets and determine the vulnerabilities present on managed systems; how to apply industry standard baselines and criteria such as the SANS / FBI Top 20, HIPPA, and Sarbanes-Oxley to determine weaknesses; how to develop your own customized checks for specific vulnerabilities. You will practice using features within Secure Configuration Manager to remove these vulnerabilities and lock down Windows and UNIX computers systems, IIS web-servers, and Microsoft SQL-Server database servers. You will also learn how to keep your security content up to date, how to use SCM to be automatically informed when new vulnerabilities are discovered by the computer security industry, and how to interface Secure Configuration Manager with NetIQ's Security Manager.
