Knowledge Base Search Tips
The NetIQ Knowledge Base uses an associative search engine designed to provide direct responses to your product questions and concerns. The Knowledge Base allows you to ask questions or enter detailed problem descriptions in plain English.
To obtain the most relevant results when searching our Knowledge Base, use the following techniques:
-
Use complete thoughts rather than keywords.
The Knowledge Base search engine is not a keyword search engine. Keyword searches typically return results based on how many times an individual word appears in a document. The associative search engine used by our Knowledge Base considers the question or concept you have entered as a whole to determine the most relevant documents.
The following examples show how to properly enter your search criteria for the most relevant results.

- Do not use wildcards, such as
java.lang*. For example, neitherjava.lang*norjava.langwill findjava.lang.OutOfMemory. Use the full spelling of a term when possible. - Do not use Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) and quotation marks. The Knowledge Base search engine interprets the text you enter as a question or concept, rather than a series of keywords.
- Use the 'Start a New Search' link to clear your browser cache between product searches.
-
Use the 'Refine Your Search' option to further refine or narrow your search results.
You can refine your search by entering more search questions if the initial results do not provide the answer you are looking for. Using this option combines your original search criteria with the new questions and could return more relevant results.
The following examples show how to refine your search for more relevant results.
