Free Active Directory Diagnostic Tool
Here's How It Works ...
Install the free ADcheck on the computer you'll use to run the ADcheck console. ADcheck runs on any computer running Windows 2000 in an Active Directory domain.
That's It!
Now you're ready to instantly perform Active Directory diagnostic tests! Just select a domain controller from the drop-down box, or type the name of a domain controller in another domain.
Five Essential Diagnostic Checks
- Test Domain Controller checks network availability of a domain controller, validates DNS records to ensure that the domain controller can be contacted by DNS, and verifies the status of the directory by binding to the domain controller. All errors (if any) are reported with explanations of their likely cause, and timings for each transaction are reported to aid in the diagnosis of performance problems.
- List Domain Controllers displays a list of all domain controllers in a given domain, and provides a detailed report showing information about each machine, including all the names the domain controller is known by, whether the machine is currently available, the ADSI scripting location of the domain controller, and the name of the Active Directory site in which the domain controller resides.
- List Operations Masters displays which servers are acting in the Operations Master roles, compares the relationship of those servers to the network layout, and checks the results against a set of industry best-practices to make recommendations for ways to better optimize the placement of the Operations Masters.
- Test Replication performs a replication toplogy check across the entire domain to identify any replication errors, and also displays diagnostic information about the replication partners to help diagnose replication performance problems. In addition, all error reports include a brief description of the probable cause for the error and hints on how to fix the problem.
- Show Domain Controller Status reports dynamically generated status information about a domain controller, including any recent replication errors, a list of the replication partners, analysis of the Active Directory sites covered by the domain controller, and a chart to identify more effective strategies for the placement of Windows 2000 domain controllers throughout the sites of your enterprise.
